When I think of a coach… I get a vision in my head of a middle-aged man in a polyester running suit with a baseball cap and a whistle. Oh, and he’s always chewing gum for some reason. He’s fairly stoic and slightly overweight.
Maybe that’s why I never played sports.
But, more than the random image that comes to my head, when I think of a coach, I think of someone who’s passionate about their sport. Passionate about making their team unified and amazing at working together. I think of someone who sees potential in each member of the team. He sees what the high school kid just can’t see yet. He knows how to train and encourage so that every member gets a chance to be the best they can be… and maybe even exceed their own expectations.
That’s what Life Coaching is about. A Life Coach is someone who is passionate about… life. Passionate about helping others see their own potential and encouraging them to do the work of getting there. A coach can never do the job FOR the client, just as a sports coach can never do the training for his team. It doesn’t work that way. But a coach is always there, always watching, always available to tweak the plays until the effort turns into flawless playing.
My Life Coach trainer painted us this picture as well. She talked of Life Coaches as architects. An architect comes alongside the builder and listens to the vision and then helps to draw up the blueprints so that the builder knows what and how to build. The architect can’t actually DO the building… that’s not his job.
So, as a Life Coach, my job is to meet with a client in order to discuss 4 specific things:
Awareness: This is crucial. What’s going on? Where are you today?
Vision: Where is it that you want to go? What has given you this direction?
Obstacles: What’s in your way? What things are going to need to be overcome to reach your vision?
Action: What’s the plan? How do we get from where you are to where you want to be?
As a Biblical Life Coach, I am committed to helping you through the process of seeking the Lord first in all that your decisions and allowing the Holy Spirit to transform your heart and mind along the way. I can’t have all the answers for you. I can only come alongside you and help you through thought-provoking questions, giving you space to tell me your story, and being an accountability for you as the journey continues.
This is such a weighty privilege for me! I have walked with several women through really difficult, hard things in their lives and I am thankful for the process of Life Coaching as I’ve been encouraged to move forward towards vision and growth. This life isn’t easy, and we weren’t meant to do it alone!
So, how about you? Where are you in the journey? Who is coming alongside you and encouraging you through the process of the vision God has given you? Do you even have a sense of His purpose for your life? Would Life Coaching be something to give you that much-needed boost in your desire to be all that you were created to be?
This may be the moment for you to stop feeling "stuck" and breakthrough to understanding more of God's purpose and calling on your life. This is my passion… let me share the joy of this journey with you! Let's chat...
